Volunteer at SAYiT
Here at SAYiT we help to give LGBTQ+ young people the support they need and deserve and we want you to help us achieve our goals too.
By offering time, skills and experience, volunteers enable us to extend our support for LGBTQ+ young people, build relationships and raise our profile with the wider community.

Volunteering Expectations
Youth Work Volunteering
Our youth work volunteers commit to regular attendance at our youth groups on Wednesday or Thursday evenings to support our youth workers, so you must be available between 5pm and 7pm on one of those days. We also occasionally go on trips at the weekend and run daytime sessions in the school holidays, and there are opportunities for youth work volunteers to support these activities, too.
Before you can start, we need to do a DBS check for you (paid for by us) and provide you with training. You're also required to complete Safeguarding and PREVENT training online.
We organise training sessions as and when required; when we’re in need of new youth work volunteers and when there’s a number of interested and suitable applicants. These sessions generally take place every six months or so. For this reason, you may be waiting several months between submitting your application and being invited to a training session, and then some time after that to complete the DBS check and online training before you're allocated to a regular schedule.
We’re really grateful for all volunteering applications. Youth work volunteering is helpful for us, enriching for the young people, and rewarding for the volunteers. However, please be aware that becoming a youth work volunteer is a serious commitment and a long process!
General Volunteering
If you’d like to contribute to our work by volunteering in other ways, such as setting up at our events or helping out on stalls, office admin tasks, supporting our parents and carers group, or fundraising. You don’t need to do the same training as youth work volunteers, but we would need to do a DBS check for you and meet you to sign confidentiality and volunteer expectations agreements.
If you are interested in volunteering with us please complete the form below!
Please indicate whether you’re interested in youth work or general volunteering (e.g. events or office support).
Spending time with the SAYiT family is not volunteering to me, it's a feeling of giving something back but getting something even more special in return.
Become a Trustee
We feel passionately that our trustee board should be truly reflective of the young LGBT+ people we serve. So, we are encouraging enquiries from people of all backgrounds and (especially those) from people of colour and/or trans people. Given the nature of our work, we are also keen to add more young LGBTQ+ voices to the board too – so please do get in touch if you are a 16-25 year old who wants to find out more about working with SAYiT!
It is not necessary to have previous trustee board/committee experience or knowledge, as training will be provided. So, this position would suit anyone looking to take their first steps to develop board level and/or governance experience. Use the Volunteer Interest Form above or our general Contact Us form below to enquire.
