Our 2018 public AGM was held in the wonderful Adelphi Room at the Crucible Theatre, overlooking Tudor Square. We were extremely grateful to Sheffield Theatre staff for their warm welcome and support! We were also bowled over by how many people turned up on a cold October evening. It meant so much to us all that so many people were prepared to show their solidarity with the charity and the young people who are supported by SAYiT. We hope that the event provided the perfect showcase for our work with young people. The real show stoppers were of course the young people themselves who performed various songs, recited poetry and talked about why SAYiT was so important to them. My thanks go out to them!
Whilst the public AGM was an opportunity to celebrate the successful grants we had been awarded and the work we do, it was also a very emotional and poignant occasion, too. I was hugely grateful to the wonderful parents and Grandma of Noah Lomax for attending and for Adam’s words of tribute to his inspirational son and the launch of the fund in memory of their son and grandson. Similarly, I was impressed by the strength of my colleague, Christie, in presenting an award in memory of her beloved, and greatly missed partner, Sarah. And of course huge congratulations go out to Hallam Diversity Team for being the first recipients of The Sarah Nulty Award.
We were also delighted to show the new film we commissioned Eden Productions to make which highlights our work with our young people – and can now be viewed on our website. But the most surreal highlight of the evening has to be the sight of the Lord Mayor, Magid Magid, racing across Tudor Square from another engagement. Mayoral chains of office flying around his neck, Magid made it just in time to address the delighted audience! Thank you Magid! You made it!
We have lots of exciting plans to look forward to for the next year now that the funding for our bids has been agreed – and it is vital that this is a collaboration between us as a team of staff, volunteers and trustees and the young people and their parents and carers.
Moreover, we are absolutely delighted that our work with over 18s, which is still so important, will be able to resume and gather pace again. So watch this space!!
In the meantime many thanks to all of you for your support – it genuinely does mean so much to us.
