LEONARDO DA VINCI PROJECT

1st – 4th April 2019

SAYiT young people have, recently, had the great privilege to attend the opening of The Leonardo da Vinci exhibition at Sheffield Millennium Gallery. As a result of their involvement we were invited to take part in an Art Project centred on the work and ideas of Leonardo da Vinci himself. During the school holidays in April 2019 a group of young people spent 3 days, working with a local artist, learning and practising a range of art techniques and then using their new found skills to explore issue of identity. One of the young people who attended the project tells us about their experience at The Millennium galleries.

Taking part in the most recent project ‘The Leonardo da Vinci Project’, I was able to experiment with art supplies and techniques. Even though I have quite a bit of experience in things that can be considered to be ‘Art’, especially 2D forms – like sketching, watercolours and a little ink knowledge, I was still surprised by new equipment (I need to buy Brusho). We were guided through creative drawing exercises that I would never have thought of….most of all; I liked drawing with my left hand.

I’ve been to almost every trip, day out and project that SAYiT has put on since I joined and I have enjoyed every single one of them. Taking part has really brought me out of the miserable depths of my early teens and I couldn’t be more thankful.

‘Also I love Leonardo da Vinci – how could I say No?…Art, free food and friends…Count me in!’
