With our Youth Pride Fayre on the horizon, we've been brainstorming a project to amplify young LGBTQ+ voices and showcase SAYiT in all of its vibrant creativity. We're excited to announce a collaboration with Mary from Colours of Sheffield to create a special Colours of SAYiT print, designed and crafted by our talented young people.
Mary recently led a workshop with one of our youth groups. Each person received a Pantone reference sheet, a blank piece of white card, and a variety of magazines to cut and collage from. The idea was to choose a colour that held personal significance and then search the magazines for images in that colour. The young people then cut and stuck to their hearts' content!
Though the magazines have now seen better days, the collages that emerged are anything but tired. They are bursting with colour and meaning, reflecting both individual experiences and the broader LGBTQ+ community. The young artists even gave their collages unique names, some echoing LGBTQ+ themes, others purely for a bit of fun.
With Mary's help, we'll be scanning and transforming these collages into a fantastic print, which will debut on Youth Pride Day, August 1st. Stay tuned for the big reveal!
