IDAHoBIT 2020

Every year SAYiT marks International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHoBIT) on the 17th May, the day same sex attraction was de-classified as a mental illness by the World Health Organisaton (WHO). We mark this day to speak out about the inequality LGBT+ people face and raise awareness of the violence, discrimination, and repression of our siblings around the world.

Due to lockdown we won’t be able to hold our annual event in the Peace Gardens but that won’t stop us making some noise.

How to take action now.

• Sign the petition to stop Liz Truss making changes to the GRA which threaten the future of young transgender people. https://www.change.org/p/uk-parliament-liz-truss-threatens-the-future-of-young-transgender-individuals-this-needs-to-be-stopped

• Sign petition to end LGBT+ conversion therapy in the UK. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/300976

• Donate to our “Noah Lomax Fund”. Supporting LGBT+ teenagers access counselling and support. https://localgiving.org/fundraising/noahlomaxfundsayit/

• Domestic Abuse in the LGBT+ community can often go unrecognised – lets break this silence. Here are some guides on how to help/support our LGBT+ friends & family if they are experiencing or using violence/abuse in current or past relationships.’

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends” Martin Luther King Jr.
