SAYiT are working alongside the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Sheffield City Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and Doncaster City Council to deliver an LGBTQ+ Suicide Prevention Training Programme.
This training course is aimed to assist service providers who want to ensure their environment is LGBTQ+ inclusive and harm reductive.
Suitable for all professionals in South Yorkshire who work with or encounter people from LGBTQ+ communities and in particular LGBTQ+ young people.
This is a rolling programme of 2-tiered training sessions across the South Yorkshire region. Training attendees must complete the LGBTQ+ Awareness (Level 1) before they are able to attend level 2 – LGBTQ+ Suicide Prevention (Level 2).
The course is free to attend for professionals working in South Yorkshire.

Level 1 - LGBTQ+ Awareness - 3.5hrs (CPD Accredited)
Learning outcomes from this course include:

A clear understanding of the difference between sex and gender

How to promote inclusion, and become an ally

Understanding the impact of LGBTQ+ phobia and discrimination

A familiarity with key terms, language and LGBTQ+ identities

Knowledge of the laws that protect LGBTQ+ people

How to identify support, and signposting
Training attendee takes away an LGBTQ+ Awareness Booklet containing up to date terminology, definitions, allyship, etc.
Level 2 - LGBTQ+ Suicide Prevention - 3.5hrs (CPD Accreditation pending)

Who the training is for?
This training programme is for front line workers, their managers and those who engage with LGBTQ+ communities, with a focus on LGBTQ+ young people.

Social Workers and Trainees, Family Intervention Workers, Foster Carers, Leaving Care Team, Young people’s Residential Units, Children’s Hospitals, A & E staff, CAMHS, GP Surgeries staff and Receptionists, Walk in Centres, Sexual Health Clinics, Senior Leadership Teams (Head Teachers, Head of Years, Governors, Teachers / Teaching Assistants, Pastoral Care, School Nurse, Alternative Provision Providers, Pupil Referral Units, Safeguarding Leads.
